Cordova Bay is a small but great neighbourhood nestled alongside the ocean on the edge of Saanich. It’s easily one of Victoria’s quaintest communities and offers a safe, quieter place to live. That doesn't mean you're out in the boonies, though! Cordova Bay is still close enough to downtown and all your other amenities.
You’ll find many people in Cordova Bay who have lived there for years and have no plans to move. But quite a few families have moved to the area over the past decade for a safe, quiet place to raise their children.
Cordova Bay boasts a cozy community centre located within the local elementary school. It offers a place for the community to come together to learn about area proposals, as well as socialize with neighbours. The Cordova Bay Association for Community Affairs has worked hard for almost 40 years to be a voice for the residents, businesses, and to welcome newcomers to the area.
The same community centre mentioned above offers quite a few recreational classes aimed mostly at seniors. In a hall down the street, you’ll also find more exercise opportunities and other community classes at the local Community Club. A Pilates studio for all ages and levels is conveniently located at nearby Mattick’s Farm.
There are kilometres of beautiful walking and cycling trails weaving throughout the neighbourhood. If a casual stroll is what you're looking for, the long sandy beaches make for lovely, easy beach walks.
Golfing is a huge pastime in Cordova Bay, and the area offers TWO fantastic golf courses. Both with stunning views, they're great for the avid golfers in your family as well as more novice ones. If you want to start them young, there's a cute, fun mini-gold course down the street from these two courses. It's perfect for the entire family!
Cordova Bay is home to many daycares, a few preschools, and has its own local elementary school. Middle and secondary school students need to bus a short distance away.
In the heart of Cordova Bay is a small, quaint shopping centre. Here you'll find a local, specialized grocery store, a few places to dine, a day spa, as well as a handful of unique shops. They carry a variety of items such as paper goods, toys, clothing, and even horse supplies.
A second shopping centre a few blocks down the street should be built in the next few years. This will include a larger grocery store and a variety of other shops.
You won’t find any chain restaurants in Cordova Bay — although there are a few nearby. Instead, local residents enjoy a few fabulous local dining spots in their neighbourhood. If you enjoy fine dining, the restaurant at Cordova Bay Golf Course offers a lovely experience. So does a beautiful beachfront restaurant a few blocks down the street. For a more casual meal, grab a sandwich, burger, and/or ice cream at the restaurant located at Mattick’s Farm. And sitting down for afternoon tea at the Tea Garden is an absolute must!
